All Business Continuity plans include the following components or functions in the Plan’s initial phase:

• Discovery of critical business processes.


• Identification of internal and external risks to the processes.


• Risk assessment: what is the probability of the risk occurring vs. the impact on the organization if the risk occurs.


• Identification of means to avoid or mitigate risks.


• Recommendations to management.
